Children's Hospital Colorado Burn Camps Program

Children's Hospital Colorado Burn Camps Program

Camp Description Our mission is to provide children who have sustained a burn injury, and their families, the opportunity to build courage and thrive throughout their recoveries and beyond by offering inspiration, rehabilitation, and shared experiences in a safe, nurturing and supportive community. We empower our campers and families to thrive through challenges in a safe and nurturing environment. Campers engage in intentional activities including, horseback riding, arts and crafts, rock climbing, games, and swimming. These curated activities encourage boundless creativity, self-expression, newfound courage, adventure, and create a positive self-image, all while making life-long friendships. Our campers play with purpose and start to discover who they are as people. They learn that their scars are part of them not defining who they are and begin to heal from the inside out.

Program Description: Our flagship program is our Summer Burn Camp. This week-long summer camp adventure is for burn survivors nationwide between the ages of 8-18. Children’s Hospital Colorado partners with Cheley Colorado Camps in Estes Park, Colorado, for the week. By providing an enriched camp experience, anchored in the Cheley philosophy of fostering genuine character and belief in the ability of youth to act spontaneously in the right, the program creates the opportunity for survivors to share their stories and push themselves beyond what they thought was possible.

This camp offers the support to continue the healing of each person allowing them to move forward and grow as a family. Each group has one instructor from the Steamboat Resort along with at least one adult camp counselor or hospital staff. The participants spend their days shredding the snow and learning new skills and tricks. In the evening, the group heads back to the Steamboat Grand Lodge to relax in the hot tub and get ready for the evening’s activity.
